Bull for gold

March 10th, 2010

As some might know I’ve been a bit bullish about Gold (and Silver) now and then. But I can’t really say that I’ve been a goldbug. Well, this might have changed today. I just wish I would have found this excellent article back in 2006, but chances are that I wouldn’t have taken the time to read it then. The change in the last four years shouldn’t be news to anyone.

Check it out: http://www.safehaven.com/article-5205.htm

I already have some gold (via ETFs) in my portfolio and I probably will increase the commitment gradually. I’m also contemplating a more active strategy using the possibility to trade gold on the spot market via many MT4 brokers (the XAUUSD symbol). But as we all know, if things actually happen like in the article above, paper-gold (anything that you don’t physically control) is probably just as bad as all other paper (like USD notes). Therefore I will try to get my hands on some physical gold to keep safe somewhere.

    Interesting article - thanks!
Let me know what you find of possibilities to place capital in physical gold. That has been an idea that I had for a while too;-)
    Cheers!

I have a friend who bought bullions a few years back, I thought he was paranoid at the time. We’ve been playing with them at a poker game once, nice feeling to a solid chunk of gold. I’ll ask him if he knows the best place to buy. I know he had some difficulty to actually get the gold last time, evidently real physical gold can be hard to get delivery on. Quite in contrast to the paper-gold I have now.

I think I will buy about 100 grams to start from http://www.tavex.se

I’m planing to ease into physical gold and the goal is to have about 10% of my investment equity in this asset eventually. And of course I won’t store it at home (so don’t come knocking). I see it as a insurance policy.

I’ve also started looking at a grid trade on XAUUSD, and learned that RoboMiner PRO will have this feature soon. Funny timing. Probably won’t work the same thou.
